The Idea
December 1998

While searching the Internet, my father stumbled upon a dogsledding outfitter based out of Senneterre, Quebec, a tiny town nearly at the end of Canada route 13, about six hours north of Montreal. He approached me with the idea of spending five days mushing from Senneterre to Matchi-Manitou and back. The trip would include traveling between remote, backcountry camps by dogsled until reaching the fishing village 60 km away.

The more I thought about the idea, the more it seemed like a good one. What better way to reclaim a sense of adventure after my divorce than to experience 5 days in the bitter cold with a bunch of dogs?
